The Story

A choice. A push. A pull.

I gained invaluable insights into storytelling while studying Family Melodrama. This genre features a protagonist whose journey is narrated by someone from a distant generation. The tension created by a generational conflict makes for a narrative that pulls the audience into the protagonist's journey. Through studying Melodrama, I came to a better understanding of character development through embodied writing.

I continued to apply the knowledge I gained regarding the mask of the space. In our exploration of melodrama, we intentionally utilized the tension of diagonal lines and the push and pull dynamics between characters. This was not only reflected physically but also emotionally, particularly in moments of conflict. Oftentimes, these stories involve a clash between established traditions and current progressive ideologies. A powerful story is one that remains relevant with a central conflict where there is no obvious good or bad, right or wrong.
